What you are going to do:

We are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer to join our Data team, working for Sportsbet Australia. The role is available in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

The SRE is a key role, responsible for ensuring our data platforms are resilient, performant and efficient to help provide Sportsbet a competitive advantage in the market.


Key Responsibilities / Duties:

Platform Operations:

  • Lead the operational support function across our Analytics and Services platforms.
  • Develop, maintain and embed operational support models and processes across Data Platforms.
  • Manage platforms to meet uptime and availability expectations of stakeholders.
  • Support what we build - taking ownership of production issues, working with stakeholders through to resolution.
  • Define and implement Monitoring Logging and Alerting across key platforms.
  • Identify, escalate and mitigate operational risks.
  • Conduct regular performance tuning across our platforms to ensure optimal usage of resources.
  • Perform regular maintenance and audit activities (patches, upgrades, user access reviews, DR tests etc.) as required to ensure stability.
  • Identify and act on opportunities for automation.
  • Ensure our data platforms meet / exceed operational system availability & uptime service level agreements


Project Delivery

  • Instill best practice for the transition of changes from delivery teams into operation.
  • Support releases and review / update documentation and Knowledge Transfer artefacts.
  • Provide input into design decisions to promote system stability and operational maintenance.
  • Take on continuous improvement items from the Technical Backlog to increase the supportability and robustness of our platforms.
  • Analyse and question business requirements.
  • Continuously improve our platforms / services with each release - new initiatives are an opportunity to deliver faster than last time.
  • Automate processes wherever possible.
  • Innovate and challenge the status quo by introducing new ideas and concepts to the team.
  • Provide input into strategy, standards, policies and future planning


Experience & Qualifications:


  • 2+ years in a cloud first, data centric organisation.
  • Computer Science degree or equivalent
  • Specialist skills in all aspects of Database Administration (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redshift).
  • Strong experience in our AWS stack (Redshift, DynamoDB, Spectrum, Aurora, S3, EMR, Kinesis, EC2 etc)
  • Proven ability in scripting/programming (UNIX Shell, Stored Procedures, python)
  • Strong technical documentation skills
  • Excellent analytical skills, coupled with a strong sense of ownership, urgency and drive.
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Exposure to a variety of ETL tools (Talend, SSIS, NiFi, AWS Glue).
  • Broad experience and familiarity with AWS technologies


Ideally experience with:

  • Fast paced agile based environment
  • Exposure to AirFlow, Spark, Genie, Sqoop, Flume, Flink would be beneficial.
