Title: Data Scientist

Role summary:

Independently provides algorithms in support of the Data Products function and Analytics Manager.  Responsible for developing, leading, and delivering complex technical projects.  Develop and enhance ad-hoc and long-term algorithms to continually improve business processes.

We are looking for a Data Scientist who will support our customer, product, marketing, and, leadership teams with insights gained from analysing company data. The ideal candidate is adept at using large data sets to find opportunities for product and process optimization and using models to test the effectiveness of different courses of action. They must have strong experience using a variety of data mining/data analysis methods, using a variety of data tools, building, and implementing models, using/creating algorithms, and creating/running simulations. They must have a proven ability to drive business results with their data-based insights. They must be comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams. The right candidate will have a passion for discovering solutions hidden in large data sets and working with stakeholders to improve business outcomes.

You will combine a solid educational background with the right technical and interpersonal skills to allow you to effectively convey and communicate complex statistical insights to a lay audience and make actionable recommendations to the right stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • work closely with your business to identify issues and use data to propose solutions for effective decision making
  • build algorithms and design experiments to merge, manage, interrogate, and extract data to supply tailored reports to colleagues, customers or the wider organisation
  • use machine learning tools and statistical techniques to produce solutions to problems
  • test data mining models to select the most appropriate ones for use on a project
  • maintain clear and coherent communication, both verbal and written, to understand data needs and report results
  • create clear reports that tell compelling stories about how customers or clients work with the business
  • assess the effectiveness of data sources and data-gathering techniques and improve data collection methods
  • horizon scan to stay up to date with the latest technology, techniques, and methods
  • conduct research from which you'll develop prototypes and proof of concepts
  • look for opportunities to use insights/datasets/code/models across other functions in the organisation (for example in the HR and marketing departments)
  • stay curious and enthusiastic about using algorithms to solve problems and enthuse others to see the benefit of your work.
  • have responsibility for the organisation's data science strategy
  • establish new systems and processes and look for opportunities to improve the flow of data
  • evaluate new and emerging technologies
  • represent the company at external events and conferences
  • build and develop relationships with clients.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Experience with some of: R/Python/Sagemaker/SQL/Redshift/AWS/Bash
  • Experience with managing AWS instances
  • Good stakeholder management skills
  • Team player with personal characteristics that engender trust and confidence
  • Ability to work independently and in a team as well as ability to take on responsibility for own projects

  • Experience with implementing Data Science solutions in a business setting
  • Highly analytical, focussed and results-driven
  • Comfortable within a changing and developing environment
