Brand Technology Director: Betfair


Role Purpose:

The Brand Technology Director will be accountable for the delivery, management, design and implementation of technology services that support Betfair as a part of the Flutter UK&I technology team. They will work directly with the commercial and product management teams within the Betfair brand to ensure that the allocated technology team delivers against commercial roadmaps, objectives and strategies. They will act as a part of the Betfair Leadership team ensuring a strong, supportive technology voice is a part of the strategy, planning and decision making process.

They will be the primary representative of UK&I technology into the brand and make sure that they fully manage with them the demands of delivering technology within their own team, in cooperation with the broader technology function, and within a large global enterprise. Within their Brand they will ensure that technology risks, issues and standards are accurately understood and expectations for delivery managed appropriately. They will champion to these stakeholders the relevant use of shared platforms, reuse and mitigation of risk.

The priority is to lead and motivate the area to achieve predictable, rapid delivery of high-quality, innovative products that delight our customers, which are scalable, secure and highly available. Using data driven insights and commercial awareness to guide development work aligned to the Betfair and UKI technology strategy and work in close partnership with Product Management and Commercial teams. This will involve working both across UKI and also being responsible for demonstrating effective and efficient use of resourcing to deliver complex roadmaps

This role will work with the commercial and product teams to shape and continually refine the ways of working between technology and the brand teams such that it is continually improving and enabling autonomous delivery of roadmaps as is possible. It will be responsible for exposing shared componentry and embedding in technology plans where appropriate.

The role will involve management of a distributed team (across all Flutter UKI Locations) in both a direct and matrixed management style. On this basis they will work very closely with the UKI Platform technology teams and tribes to ensure that they appropriately leverage the service the  platforms team offer, to make sure that they are maximising appropriate scale, reuse,  and where appropriate contributing to the overall capability of the platforms. The expectation is that as both technology transformation and shared platforms architecture develops the amount of matrixed teams will diminish and brand technology teams become more autonomous.

This role will also be responsible for ensuring that the brand is robust from a stability, service and security perspective. They will work with the UKI Infrastructure and security teams to ensure that holistic management of these aspects of service are in place, managed and supported from a brand perspective. They will develop an excellent operational framework, ensuring the brand receive reliable, 24/7, 365 days a year. As a brand technology director they will expose the services provided by technology, promoting transparent communication, continuous learning, and a desire for excellence across the team.

Given that delivery will be facilitated for the brand using a mix of direct and  matrixed management. A key emphasis of the role will be to ensure that all contributors to Betfair delivery are highly engaged and aligned to brand ambitions and objectives. They will help shape ways of working within the brand technology organisation and ensure that ways of working within the platforms team meet the needs of the consuming brand.    

This role can be based in any of our UK &I locations (Porto, Dublin, London, Leeds, Cluj) offices, however as this role will involve managing a team split across a number of locations, regular travel will be a necessity when global and local situations permit. .

This position will be a part of the UKI technology leadership team and will play an active part in developing the UKI technology strategy and ensuring the wider technology team deliver on their objectives.



  • Support the delivery of customer focused outcomes for Betfair setting out a clear set of success metrics and seeking to unearth insights which drive forward our understanding of the customer experience.
  • Management of Betfair Portfolio from a delivery, maintenance, enhancement and development perspective using directly managed and matrixed servicing teams. They will be accountable for Budget, reporting and governance ownership for the Betfair technology organisation brand and be responsible for the effectively and ensure resources are deployed as cost-effectively as possible.
  • Define strategy, plans and approach for brand adoption (where appropriate) of shared platform componentry into the brand. This extends to pushing further autonomy with which the team can deliver for the brand,
  • Managing, Shaping and driving requirements into the shared platform teams both technical direction and ways of working.
  • Align direct and matrixed teams to brand technology strategy. Build an aligned team regardless of matrixed nature of allocations.
  • Engaging with colleagues inside and outside Technology to ensure cross-functional initiatives are delivered and dependencies are managed;
