This role:


We are looking for a dedicated, self-motivated, highly skilled data professional to join our great team working on building high-end, high-quality applications in large scale low latency data environments. Specifically, this role will focus on advancing the Data Science agenda within Paddy Power Betfair. Working with senior business stakeholders from the Commercial organization, the individual will drive the delivery of cutting edge data solutions to drive automation, advanced analytics, and business intelligence across the company.

The successful candidate will bridge the technical and business worlds across Paddy Power Betfair. This role will collaborate with business units to translate business requirements into data solutions. The Product Owner works with Data Modellers, Data Architects and the Data Delivery teams to formulate and provide data solutions to optimize the business value generated from our data assets. The individual will harness an extensive suite of technologies:


  • Highly distributed platforms such as AWS S3, Spark, Hadoop/EMR and AWS Redshift;
  • Machine learning platforms such as AWS SageMaker, R, various Python frameworks;
  • Orchestration platforms such as Airflow;
  • Messaging platforms like Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, SNS;
  • ELT/ETL pipelines using a mix of technologies from custom stream consumers to established ETL platforms like Talend.


What you are going to do:

  • Champion data initiatives in the business and promote the art of the possible for leveraging data across PPB
  • Coach business stakeholders and proactively suggest new ways to leverage data available linked to business value, to generate demand for new data solutions
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve and rationalise applications and processes across the whole data team, working in close collaboration with data leadership team and subject matter experts
  • Devise logical data models and mappings leveraging data available in the Data Warehouse & Data Lake to meet business data requirements and enable analytical processes
  • Work closely with Data Modellers to design Data Warehouse enhancements that provide the business with ease of access to data ready for exploitation via data consumption tools
  • Work closely with Data Architects to guide nearshore Data Delivery activities to ensure data solutions delivered fully meet user expectations
  • Analyse data requirements to assess availability of data, feasibility to meet prioritised requirements and identify ‘quick win' opportunities
  • Perform data analysis, profiling & mapping of data available in the Data Lake to help business stakeholders understand what data is available for exploitation

Experience & Qualifications Required:

  • Experience in systems/technical analysis and design of data solutions and BI capabilities
  • Proven SQL skills required to analyse and profile large data sets
  • Data industry understanding and interest with exposure to big data solutions and dimensional modelling
